SUKO non-metallic cold pressing equipment compacts PTFE powder into rod billets, tube billets, gaskets, sealing rings and other custom molded parts.
One PTFE compression molding press is not limited to one product. If the press capacity, platen size and stroke are suitable, different products can be manufactured by changing the mold, mold core or mandrel. The powder charge and pressure program are then adjusted for each product.
How Does PTFE Cold Pressing Work?
PTFE does not need to melt during compression molding. The basic process includes:
- Load PTFE molding powder into the product mold.
- Apply cold pressure, holding time and controlled pressure release.
- Remove the PTFE green preform from the mold.
- Sinter it in a programmable furnace.
Conventional PTFE compression molding normally uses unsintered molding powder. Pre-sintered granular resin is more closely associated with PTFE ram extrusion and automatic material feeding.
What Can One PTFE Molding Press Produce?

A cylindrical mold can produce PTFE rod billets in different diameters and lengths. These billets can be machined into large seals, valve components, electrical insulators and other precision parts.

Compression-Molded PTFE Tubes
A central mandrel creates the tube bore. Changing the outer mold and mandrel changes the OD, ID and wall thickness.

Compression-Molded PTFE Gaskets and Rings
An interchangeable ring mold can produce gaskets with different outside diameters, inside diameters, thicknesses and cross-sectional shapes.
Finished gaskets can be supplied for installation. Thick ring blanks can also be machined into valve seats, sealing rings, wear rings and pump components.

How Should the Equipment Be Selected?
Automatic PTFE Molding Machine
Automatic equipment is suitable for smaller products with stable specifications and repeat production. It can complete powder feeding, pressing, demolding and repeated production cycles.

Double-Acting PTFE Molding Press
A double-acting press applies pressure from both ends. It shortens the pressure transmission distance through the powder and can improve compaction uniformity in taller tube billets, bushings and ring-shaped parts.

PTFE Gasket Molding Machine
Different gasket sizes and shapes can be produced by replacing the product mold. After each mold change, the powder charge, molding pressure, holding time and pressure-release program are adjusted.

Semi-Automatic Heavy-Duty Press
Large rod billets, thick-wall tubes and large ring blanks require more powder and heavier tooling. Semi-automatic equipment makes powder loading, mold changes and green-part removal easier to manage.
How Is Press Capacity Calculated?
Press capacity should not be selected from the product diameter alone.
The basic calculation is:
Required pressing force = effective projected area × target molding pressure
Equipment selection must also consider:
- Product OD, ID and height
- Virgin or filled PTFE
- Mold and mandrel structure
- Single or double-acting compression
- Powder charge per part
- Safety allowance
- Required output per shift
Customers should provide the final product drawing instead of requesting a press based only on nominal tonnage.

SK-5T Automatic Gasket Production Project in Russia
This delivered production system included:
- One SK-5T automatic molding press
- Four PTFE gasket molds
- One sintering furnace with a 1000 × 1000 × 1000mm internal chamber
The four molds were designed for:
- OD 23mm × ID 19mm × 4mm
- OD 33mm × ID 28mm × 9.6mm
- OD 50mm × ID 45mm × 9.6mm
- OD 50mm × ID 45mm × 6mm
The customer can change the mold to produce each gasket size. The powder charge and molding program are set for the selected product.
60-Ton PTFE Molding Project in Russia
Another delivered system included:
- One 60-ton automatic molding press
- One rotary sintering furnace
- Eight product molds
This configuration allows the customer to produce several molded products by changing the tooling. The press, eight molds and rotary furnace were configured as one complete production system.
Why Is a Sintering Furnace Required?
Cold pressing only creates a PTFE green preform. It must be sintered to obtain the required mechanical properties and dimensional stability.
The heating rate, peak temperature, holding time and cooling rate must match the material and product dimensions. An unsuitable program may cause cracking, deformation or uneven internal quality.

Must cold-pressed PTFE be sintered?
Yes. Cold pressing only forms the green preform. Sintering is required to obtain stable PTFE properties.
