Teflon Rod Machine for PTFE and UHMWPE Rod Production

Manufacturers that produce both PTFE rods and Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) rods do not always need two separate machines. SUKO’s rod machine can process both materials on one equipment platform. Operators only need to change the mold and adjust the production parameters for the selected material.

“Teflon rod” is a common market term for PTFE rod. PTFE offers excellent chemical resistance, low friction, electrical insulation, and stable performance in demanding environments. UHMWPE provides high wear resistance, impact strength, low friction, and self-lubricating performance. By using one flexible rod machine, manufacturers can produce different engineering plastic rods without purchasing two complete main machines.

One Rod Machine for Two Materials

The main machine does not need replacement when switching between PTFE and UHMWPE. The operator changes the mold and uses the corresponding process settings. SUKO provides the recommended parameters according to the material, rod diameter, mold design, and production requirements.

The machine supports different rod sizes from approximately 20 mm to 500 mm. SUKO supplies different configurations for different diameter ranges. The PFB150 model, for example, is commonly configured for PTFE or UHMWPE rods with diameters of approximately 80–150 mm.

Continuous Sintering and Rod Forming

This machine does more than push cold material through a mold. During PTFE production, the material undergoes sintering while the machine continuously pushes it forward. The material forms a dense rod as it exits the die.

This integrated process supports continuous rod production. The finished rod can then enter a support system, cooling section, or cutting machine. The exact process settings depend on the selected PTFE grade, rod diameter, mold, and required output.

PTFE Rod Production

PTFE rods are commonly used as machining blanks. Manufacturers can machine them into seals, gaskets, bushings, valve seats, guide parts, bearings, insulators, and other custom components.

The production process must control material preparation, mold design, heating, sintering, pushing speed, and cooling. SUKO configures the machine and mold according to the required rod diameter, material grade, and production capacity.

UHMWPE Rod Production

UHMWPE rods are widely used for wear-resistant and low-friction components. Typical applications include guide rails, sliding blocks, liners, wear plates, rollers, bushes, and conveyor-machine parts.

UHMWPE uses different process settings from PTFE. The operator adjusts the mold, pressure, pushing speed, cooling conditions, and release process according to the material and rod size. The same machine platform can support both materials after the operator changes the mold and applies the correct settings.

Automatic Feeding for Continuous Production

The machine includes a material hopper for manual feeding. For customers who need continuous production, SUKO can provide an automatic feeding machine.

The automatic feeder supplies material to the production system according to the required operating cycle. It reduces manual loading and helps create a more continuous production line. When combined with the rod machine, support equipment, and cutting machine, it can support a higher level of production automation.

Automatic Cutting for Fixed-Length Rods

The machine can continuously produce long rods. A supporting device can hold the finished rod and reduce bending or breakage during production.

For regular production, customers can add an automatic cutting machine. Operators set the required cutting length, and the cutter separates the continuous rod into fixed sections. This makes handling, packaging, and downstream machining easier.
