The normal color of gastric juice is usually dark green because bile is usually mixed with gastric juice. If it is bright red in color, it indicates that there may be active bleeding in the stomach. If the gastric juice is excessive, it indicates possible intestinal obstruction or gastroparesis. If there is a change in the color or nature of the gastric juice, or if there is an excessive amount of gastric juice, the doctor should be informed promptly and the patient should be treated accordingly.
